Since I haven’t written anything in ages, I had also stopped reading what I’ve written before- because then I would remember that writing used to be my escape and that I don’t do it anymore. In fact, I had even stopped thinking of myself as someone who writes because isn’t that what it’s called when you haven’t written for ages. Alas, today I stumbled across something I wrote a while back, and in it, I said :
“we can never recover who we once were, we can never take back what happed to us, but we can look back on who we used to be, we can connect with them, we can introduce them to our new selves and we can show them compassion.”
I never knew I needed to hear my own words so badly. I struggle with this a lot, going through phases in life and holding myself to who I once was because I assume she was better, but it is not always the case. Sometimes we go through cycles, and through them, we evolve in different ways; we might stop doing what we used to or pouring into ourselves like we used to, but we might also pick up new ways to do so along the way. Today I remembered that I am so much more than who I used to be, I am so much more than my expectations of who I should be, and I should always be the kindest voice to myself.
So much has changed about me, and that’s okay. Nobody is expected to be the same person all the time because the world is never the same. So show yourself more compassion, give yourself a warm hug, and remind yourself that although your body is of this earth, your soul is so much more, and it shifts with the cycles, and that’s okay. Here is a short affirmation I wrote a while back that helps me remember that I am exactly where I am supposed to be, even when it does not always feel that way.
in the infinity of life where i am,
i am exactly where i’m supposed to be.
in the infinity of life where i am,
all is whole, perfect & intact.
in the infinity of life where i am,
i watch my manifestations become my reality,
in the infinity of life where i am,
i take the front seat in my life,
i keep my eye on the prize,
because i know,
that everything works out for me.
in the infinity of life where i am,
i am exactly who i’m supposed to be,
i am me, just as you are you.
i do not exist to live up to your expectations,
just as you do not exist to live up to mine,
in the infinity of life where i am,
i am resilient, i am deserving, i am enough.
in the infinity of life where i am,
i am my ancestors wildest dreams.
